Tungsten hares ear - I have tied these with a central bead in a similar way to nomad fly's. This gives a target point in the fly to attract the trout or grayling. Also if tied on a curved shank hook and the bead is big enough relative to the hook weight it will swim point up so reducing snags.
The examples shown here were tied with pink and orange metallic tungsten beads.

Hook :- Knapek grub size 16
Body :- Pink shrimp dubbing, fluorescent pink thread 8/0
Head :- 3mm metallic pink tungsten bead
Tail :- Globrite floss no.2 pink
A good dropper fly when fishing Czech nymph.
Tungsten bead spiders - A slightly different take on the classic Yorkshire spider patterns, much loved and very useful patterns. Sometimes having a bit of weight in the point spider gives a bit of extra depth for when the fish are taking near but not at the surface. I have tried using a spider as the top dropper when czech nymphing and this was effective.
I have matched :-
1) a 1.5 mm metallic purple with snipe and purple in a size 18 fly,
2) a 2mm orange bead with partridge and orange size 14
3) a 2mm green bead with picric partridge and waxed yellow silk size 14 representing an olive( not a classic but it does work ).
All the silks used are Pearsalls.

Hook :- Kamasan B110 size 12
Body :- Grey ostrich herl
Back :- Large tungsten shrimp back
Legs :- Partridge feather fibres
Head :- Fluorescent green wool with burnt end
An excellent point fly when fishing Czech nymph, can also be tied with an X-large shrimp back on size 10 for when extreme weight is needed.
